Week Intensive - Intermediate
£600
This intensive week is designed for potters who want to develop their throwing skills and confidently work at a larger scale. With a maximum of five participants, the course offers an intimate studio environment with plenty of individual guidance and hands-on support throughout the week.
Across the course, participants will explore a range of advanced wheel-throwing and finishing techniques, with projects tailored to the pace and interests of the group. Areas of focus may include preparing and centering larger quantities of clay; throwing substantial forms such as bowls, platters, trays, and lidded vessels; altering and joining thrown sections to create larger pieces including moon jars and lamp bases; and working with techniques such as throwing off the hump and coil enlargement.
The week will also cover trimming and refining forms, handle and lid making, slip decoration, incising leather-hard surfaces, and glazing methods including dipping, pouring, spraying, and the use of underglazes and oxides. Participants will have the opportunity to create both functional and sculptural work while refining their confidence, control, and understanding of larger ceramic forms.
A sixth glazing day will also be scheduled separately, with the date agreed collectively by the group during the course.
