Hand-Built Teapot Course

£250

Friday 8th May | 10am–4pm &
Saturday 9th May | 1pm–7pm

This two-day course will guide you through making and assembling a fully functional teapot using traditional hand-building techniques. Led by experienced ceramicist Wa Liu, the course is taught through a clear, step-by-step process that supports both learning and experimentation.

You will learn how to:

  • Form the teapot body using tapping and pinching techniques

  • Hollow and shape a spout

  • Construct a fitted lid using slab-building

  • Coil and attach a handle

  • Assemble all elements into a finished teapot

The workshop places a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, patience, and an appreciation of traditional ceramic skills, while encouraging you to push your abilities in a fun and supportive environment.

This course is suitable for beginners, improvers, and intermediate makers.

At the end of the course, you will select a glaze colour. Your teapot will be glazed by our studio technician and ready for collection approximately 2–4 weeks after the course.

About the Tutor – Wa Liu

Wa began her ceramics journey in Hong Kong in 2014, where a personal interest in clay led to an apprenticeship with a local potter. She later moved to London, completing work placements and working as an artist assistant with established ceramists between 2018 and 2020.

After returning to Hong Kong, Wa spent five years teaching ceramics to students from diverse backgrounds before returning to London in 2025 to continue developing her practice.

Working with both wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, Wa specialises in sculptural and functional ceramics. Her teaching approach is adaptive and inclusive, supporting a range of learning styles and experience levels while fostering a safe, encouraging studio environment.
